Reflecting on a Year of Life-changing Work.

One year ago today, the CDC recommended against gatherings of 50 people or more and specifically warned against holding “conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.” The event industry changed overnight.

Looking back on the last year, VIVA is so proud of how our team, and the industry-at-large, has risen to the challenge of helping our clients adapt, innovate, and reach audiences in new ways. Even with the challenges, these have been times of innovation, creativity, and life-changing work.

We invite you to take a peek into some of our recent projects. We’re proud to say that during the pandemic, we stayed true to our mission to create extraordinary experiences that bring people together and improve the world.

For Oprah’s new AppleTV+ series The Conversation, VIVA worked with Ms. Winfrey as her virtual production partner, designing multiple approaches to facilitate intimate conversation with a wide array of guests from Mariah Carey and Matthew McConaughey, to Dolly Parton and President Obama. From a two mirrored set in an approach recognized by Hollywood Reporter as “an environment that dovetails perfectly with the remote communication age,” to an immersive green screen bringing guests together within one frame, VIVA has pushed the boundaries of virtual production. Each set creates an environment where technology disappears and a conversation between Oprah, her guest, and remote panelists occurs in an organic and meaningful way.

VIVA Creative produced a live audience experience for the 2020 Video Music Awards. Hundreds of fans were brought into a virtual cityscape on an XR stage. Video outputs of fans in stylized apartment interiors designed by VIVA were placed into virtual apartment buildings as part of the XR set. Their applause, cheering and dancing recreated the feeling of being on stage in front of an audience for the performers and brought vibrancy and excitement to the virtual awards.

VIVA was proud to work with OWN on Oprah + 100 Black Fathers. An innovative wraparound monitor design allowed Oprah to have a personal conversation with 100 Black fathers from all walks of life—including celebrities like Tyler Perry and Courtney B. Vance—about how they are speaking to their children at this critical moment in our history. As virtual production partner, VIVA collaborated with the OWN team on set design, lighting, cinematography, talent coordination, and remote production. The special event is available online here.

This is just a snapshot of some recent work. Stay tuned for updates as there is so much more to share, and please contact us to learn more about how we help create extraordinary digital and live experiences together.
