International Women’s Day Special Guest, Sarah Hurwitz

VIVA joined millions of people across the world in observing International Women’s Day, honoring the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

To celebrate, the VIVA team gathered in our open theater for an intimate conversation with Sarah Hurwitz.

From 2009 to 2017, Sarah served as a White House speechwriter, starting out as a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama and then becoming the chief speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama. She crafted a number of widely-acclaimed addresses, including her 2012 and 2016 Democratic National Convention speeches.

The lively discussion was enriched by Sarah’s insight on women in leadership, and her unique perspective on persuasive and passionate storytelling.

She shared three hallmarks of exceptional speech writing:

  1. Talk like a real person.
  2. Show, don’t tell.
  3. Seek the deepest truth in every message.

Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your wisdom with VIVA on this important day.
